Happy Mother's Day!

Look at the pretty flowers I got my mom. 2 different kinds -- I am an exceptionally good child.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there. Hope your kids are as appreciative and generous as me.

The Lost Symbol

I got this book for my dad for Christmas so I could read it. I am finally getting around to it. I started it yesterday. It's just now getting good.

From the inside cover:

"In this stunning follow-up to the global phenomenon The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown demonstrates once again why he is the world's most popular thriller writer. The Lost Symbol is a masterstroke of storytelling -- a deadly race through a real-world labyrinth of codes, secrets, and unseen truths... all under the watchful eye of Brown's most terrifying villain to date. Set within the hidden chambers, tunnels, and temples of Washington D.C., The Lost Symbol accelerates through a startling landscape toward an unthinkable finale.
As the story opens, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned unexpectedly to deliver an evening lecture in the U.S. Capitol Building. Within minutes of his arrival, however, the night takes a bizarre turn. A disturbing object -- artfully encoded with five symbols -- is discovered in the Capitol Building. Langdon recognizes the object as an ancient invitation... one meant to usher its recipient into a long-lost world of esoteric wisdom.
When Langdon's beloved mentor, Peter Solomon -- a prominent Mason and philanthropist -- is brutally kidnapped, Langdon realizes his only hope of saving Peter is to accept this mystical invitation and follow wherever it leads him. Langdon is instantly plunged into a clandestine world of Masonic secrets, hidden history, and never-before-seen locations -- all of which seem to be dragging him toward a single, inconceivable truth."

Sounds a lot like all his other books. And so far it is. But then again, like his other books, it makes for a pretty interesting story. I have always been really curious about the Masons and I'm learning a lot by reading this book. I have to keep the computer handy whenever I read this book to stop and check to see if the things he talks about actually exist -- and so far, yes.

If you liked The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, then you'll like this book because it is a lot like the previous two. Okay, so maybe its pretty much the same story just the setting and details are different. But what did you expect from a Robert Langdon book?

I wish I had a beach vacation 2010

Beach Vacation 2010
So, I have a friend who is going on vacation to Jamaica next week (on the super cheap -- I know, I'm jealous too). And while talking with her about her packing progress (I'm a nerd about packing and planning for trips) I got to thinking about what I would wear if I were going to be lounging around some exotic location for a week. And so here it is, my fabulous pretend packing list. Everything can be mixed and matched to make about 15 different outfits. And it's all stuff that is pretty much low maintenance and will still look great if it gets wrinkled or wet. Plus there's some really versatile bags, shoes, sunglasses, and jewelry (there's that sailboat necklace that is currently the object of my affection).

Trips like this are great because everything you need to pack is small and light so there's no use for a huge bulky bag, even if you're planning on being there awhile. You don't even have to bring a hair dryer. Just let your hair be beachy and beautiful, just don't forget the moisterizer, sunblock, and lip gloss.

This will have to tide me over for now as we don't have any beach trips on the horizon -- all our extra cash is going into a different project. But take a look at these pretty clothes and join me in dreaming about sipping a fruity drink in a hammock on the beach. And LB, I hope this helps you in your packing.

FYI:

The next time it rains, listen to Jamie Cullum (doesn't matter which album or song) with the windows open. It completely compliments the weather. Lazy and beautiful.

Rainy weekend clothing

Rainy Saturday afternoon
Its been really rainy here the past few days so I've been dreaming about walking around in this outfit -- lots of color to brighten up the blanket of grey outside, ankle boots can easily be replaced with wellies, and with the large tote, can be stored away until needed. Plus, the cute red lady umbrella makes me smile. And I've thrown in the aviators in case the sun decides to make an appearance. I am also loving the sailboat pendant necklace since I have recently become obsessed with owning a sailboat and learning how to sail.

Oh yea, don't forget to watch Conan O'Brien's 60 Minutes special tonight. As of yesterday, he can legally appear on TV again. Prepare for some serious NBC/Jay Leno bashing.

Team Coco 4-ever!
