Happy weekend:

Happy Friday and a very happy Halloween! Got anything fun planned for this evening? We are going to a friend's costume party. I have been working on little M's costume for weeks and am so excited to show it off (more on that later). It's his first Halloween, after all.

This weekend, we've got big plans to take a long walk (weather permitting), catch up on sleep, and do a little sewing.

Have a great one, friends!

Baby bump:

I took a photo of my belly every day while I was pregnant with every intention of making this video to document my experience. And then M showed up and life with an infant got underway. Now here we are 5 months (happy 5 months, M!) later and I'm just now getting around to sharing this.

But better late than never, right? And what a great way to look back and remember. I know it's only been 5 months but I have already forgotten so much. I have another video that I've been working on but at this rate, I'll be happy if I get it done by M's first birthday.

How about you:

Time for another "How About You". This time? Childhood obsession. This is really fun as I had a ton of really weird ones. Ready?
  1. A very real fear of constant kidnapping. Every where we went, I was convinced someone was just waiting to kidnap me. Apparently, I was a very nervous child.
  2. Trees. Or more specifically, climbing trees. As a child, I wanted to live in a tree and once I actually tried it! (It didn't go well.)
  3. The Victorian Age. Loved the clothes, the the lack of electricity (candles are just more exciting), and the oh so proper manners. I spent waaaaay too many hours dressed up playing prim and proper tea party.
  4. Old graveyards -- deliciously creepy, I found them completely fascinating.
  5. Whitney Houston. Apparently, I had a picture of her above my bed that I would kiss every night, I had a dress that I called my Whitney Houston dress, and I used to sing her songs into the hose of our vacuum cleaner.
How about you? Any fun or weird childhood obsessions?

Happy weekend:

Happy Friday! So glad we have made it to another weekend! What are you doing with your precious time off? I pretty much live for the weekend now because that's when I'm able to tackle all my projects and spend time with my family. So, this weekend we will be hanging out, doing some sewing, and hopefully sneaking in a nap or two. We have a small Halloween get together this weekend with my running group and I'm looking forward to bringing M and introducing him to the members that we don't see very often.

Here's a little of what's been going on in our world lately:
  1. M rolled over! After weeks of laying on his side and struggling to get over his shoulder, it finally happened!
  2. I fit into my old clothes again!
  3. Decided not to run the Soaring Wings Half Marathon this weekend.
  4. I've been working on M's Halloween costume (more on that later) for a while now. I couldn't decide which style of hat I liked best so I'm making them both.
  5. We are still dealing with the aftermath of our power outage. Now all that's left to fix is the washing machine.
Have a great, relaxing weekend, everyone!

New clothes:

I am finally back into my pre-pregnancy clothes! Rejoice! To celebrate the day I thought would never come, I treated myself to some new clothes.

LOFT is having a 50% off everything sale right now. Head on over there and snap something up for yourself. You deserve it.

Happy weekend:

You guys. Can we just talk about this week for a second? Because it was the worst. I know I've probably made that statement before but never did I mean it until now. I can't believe we survived.

Our week included:

1 catastrophic power failure at our house
2 baby gadgets with blown motors that had to be replaced
3 nights of sleeping on an air mattress at my parents' house
4 service calls to get everything back up and running

Seriously, it was no fun. I'm glad it's all over, that the issue has been resolved, and we're all back home safe and sound. Now we just have to clean up the mess we made while trying to figure out what was going on, restock our fridge and freezer, and let things get back to normal. I have big plans this weekend to do absolutely nothing. Just relax and enjoy being home. Hopefully we can get through this weekend without anything else going wrong. Then I need a massage. And a drink.

Have a great weekend, friends.

You got this:

The Honest Company, a brand I love for so many different household products, is doing some great things out there. Besides donating to families in need, they've started an online community where mothers can go for support. They made a series of videos called You Got This -- videos where real moms sit down and discuss those nagging little thoughts and doubts that you have but feel like you can never voice. And trust me, I really needed to hear these things this week. Maybe you do too.

They're fantastic and beautiful and I loved watching them. Already I'm finding that motherhood can be so isolating. A lot of the time I feel that needing help makes me seem weak and admitting I have insecurities and doubts makes me, in some way, inadequate or less of a mom. I'm still trying to figure this whole thing out, who I am now, and how this new role will fit into my life. It's hard and worrying about making mistakes and being judged by others, especially other moms, shouldn't even be a thing we concern ourselves with. It's time to turn things around and help motherhood to be this great unifier -- automatic access to a support system of awesome women who can help us when we need advice, a shoulder to cry on, or just someone to tell us that we're doing a good job.

Share these lovely videos with the mothers in your life. And know that you're doing a fantastic job. You got this.

Happy weekend:

Happy weekend, everyone! So glad the weekend is here! The dreaded 4-month sleep regression is in full swing at our house so everyone is lacking in the sleep department these days. I can't wait to use the next two days to sneak in some naps. What are you up to this weekend? We are going to be putting the finishing touches on the desk in the office and doing some yard work. I am hoping to find some time to work on M's Halloween costume as well.

Have a great weekend! XO.

Nursery update:

Our entire house is a work in progress. The room that is the most complete, however, is the nursery. Before we share its current state, let's take a look at where we started:

Remember this bare room? Not like any nursery I've ever seen. But now?

We have had such fun decorating this space for our sweet little boy. I can't wait to see how this room evolves as he gets older, his personality develops, and he starts having an opinions about everything.

We love:

Sometimes, when you're having a particularly rough week, you just need an old friend to come and pick you up. Well, this is that week and this is that friend:

These videos always make me laugh. Whenever I'm feeling a little down, spending some quality time with this sassy little man always does the trick.

While you were sleeping:

I used to spend the free time I had while M slept sleeping too. Now that I've mostly caught up on my lost sleep, I've started using my free time to pursue other creative endeavors. This is the time I have to work on the projects I've been meaning to get to but can never seem to find the time for. So, I'm starting a new series called "While You Were Sleeping" to share the things I make during these small moments of adult time throughout the day.

Up first, this darling little coat I made for M:

For my birthday last year, I was gifted this wonderful little book of patterns for children. I was immediately drawn to a cute little coat and even picked up the fabric for it but with the chaos of moving and having no energy towards the end of my pregnancy, it got put aside. Now that it's getting chillier outside, my mind turned back to this project and I picked it up again.

Since it was so small, it was very easy to do. I laid out the fabric and cut the pattern pieces. I wanted to make it a little thicker so he could wear it all winter, so I cut the pieces from some batting that I had in my stash as well.

Then all that was left was to stitch it together. It took longer than I'd like because somewhere during the move, I misplaced my seam ripper and had to wait while the new one I ordered arrived. And since this was the first time I had attempted sleeves, there was a bit of a learning curve. Once I learned how to ease a sleeve though, it was smooth sailing.

I sewed the wooden toggle buttons on one night while watching a movie with Andrew. And then we tried it on him to see how it fit. It's large (I made a 9 month size) but it is so sweet. I can see myself making this for him again in larger sizes for years. I've added other baby garments to my "to make" list for nap time because clothes are so much more fun to make when they're in miniature.

How about you:

Welcome to today's "How About You": fridge edition. I have always found people's groceries fascinating. I like to check out what people are buying at the supermarket. It says a lot about someone. A fridge says even more. It calls you out on that time when you thought buying kale would be a good idea because it's healthy but then you let it sit in your fridge until it wilted and turned brown. Or that time you picked up that weird jar from the international aisle because you were feeling brave but it tasted so gross and then you felt guilt because it cost more than you should have paid so it's been sitting in the back of the fridge because you can't bear to throw it out.

Here's what's in the back of our fridge:

  • a container of old blueberries
  • a bag of bread with only the heels remaining
  • a jar of yeast
  • an opened can of sweetened condensed milk
  • an almost empty jar of mayonnaise

What about you? What's lurking in the back of your fridge?

Happy weekend:

Happy Friday. I am so relieved that this week is over. Between running late for everything, a sick baby, and feeling insanely exhausted and off-kilter, survival has been the name of the game.

Here's a little of what we've been dealing with this week:
  1. M has a stomach bug (or at least what we think is a stomach bug). He also got his 4 month shots this week. That means two doctor visits in three days. A sick little baby is no fun.
  2. I have been so run down this week. That means going to bed early, sleeping late (too late, eek!), missing my morning runs, and generally feeling exhausted. I don't know what's going on with me.
  3. I can't eat dairy while M has this stomach bug and that, with the whole running late in the morning thing, has had me eating a vending machine breakfast at work each day. There is no way this is even remotely healthy but what can you do?
  4. I finished M's winter coat this week! I plan on sharing that on here next week.
  5. We started building our desk for the home office! It's nearly done!
What have you got going on this weekend? Anything fun? We're hoping to finish our desk for the office this weekend. And I'm working on M's Halloween costume! So exciting! Let's hope I have the energy to tackle it all.

Have a great weekend, friends!
