Jack's Mannequin is my very fave

So, my all time favorite band is Jack's Mannequin. I love them. In fact, there may not be anyone who is as crazy about them as I am (except for you, LB).

Here is what I love about them:

Andrew McMahon. He is so incredibly talented with the piano. If you've ever seen him play, you understand. Its beautiful. You can tell just by watching him that he really loves what he does. And he is an amazing song writer. Especially with his latest album, The Glass Passenger. He battled leukemia while writing the songs for that cd. And not only did he kick it's butt, but was able to use his experience to write some incredibly moving songs. I completely connect with that entire cd.

My favorite song -- Swim:

And today I added this documentary to my Netflix que -- the film made using all the footage that he took to document his experience with illness and how it impacted his music. I'm excited to watch it.

So, let's review. Mr. McMahon: plays the piano, lead singer for 2 different successful bands, kicked leukemia's tail, and made a documentary about it all by the age of 27. That's amazing. His story really is amazing. You should read more about him. And buy his albums.

Zac Posen for Target

Zac Posen is at Target. He has been there for 3 days and I can't believe I completely forgot about it until now. We went down to visit him this afternoon. And I am IN LOVE with this pleated tuxedo skirt. Seriously, I die. You have to see his collection in person, it will rip your face off. So well made and so much attention to detail. It feels like the real Zac Posen, not a collaboration. And that has me very excited. Finally. The last few designer lines at Target have been a huge let down for me. But Mr. Posen did not disappoint. Get yourself over to your local Target and have a look at his beautiful designs. But I call dibs on that skirt.

Two Door Cinema Club

While browsing the Internet this afternoon, I came across a great new band -- Two Door Cinema Club. They sound like a million other bands that I like, so naturally, I'm really into it.

Take a listen to their song "Something Good Can Work" and tell me what you think.

Whistling in the Dark

Started reading this book yesterday.

"Sally O'Malley made a promise to her daddy before he died. She swore she'd look after her sister Troo. Keep her safe. But like her granny always said, actions speak louder than words. And Sally would have to agree with her. Because during the summer of 1959, the girls' mother is hospitalized, their stepfather abandons them for a six-pack, and their big sister, Nell, who was left strict instructions to take care of them, is too busy making out with her boyfriend to notice that Sally and Troo are on the loose. And so is a murderer and molester.
Highly imaginative Sally is pretty sure of two things. Who the killer is. And that she's next on the list. If nobody will believe her, she has no choice but to protect herself and Troo the best she can, relying on her own courage and the kindness of her neighbors."

It's made for some pretty interesting light reading. I am especially enjoying the writing style. The author obviously shares my love of punctuation. And almost fragment sentences. And she is talented in the description department. This book feels like summer. Reading it almost makes me want to run around the streets at dusk with those crazy kids. Popsicle stained cheeks, sweaty hair, and bare feet.
You should check it out.

Happy Earth Day!

In my opinion, Earth Day is a super great day. I mean, what is better than a day where everyone tries to do great things for this planet? Every day should be Earth Day.

We are pretty big fans of http://www.watergeeks.com/. They have an incredible product -- the Filtered Stainless Bottle. It's a BPA -free reusable aluminum water bottle with a filter built right into the lid. So you can fill it with tap water from anywhere and be sure that when you take a drink, it will be free from chlorine, bad taste, odor, lead and other potential tap water contaminants.

They have a ton of other products, including more water filtration systems and all natural, organic products. I really want to try the Ultra Antioxidant drops.

Pick one up for yourself or a friend. And Happy Earth Day.

One Day on Earth

Just wanted to share with you something amazing I stumbled upon: One Day on Earth.

From the website, http://www.onedayonearth.org/:
"Join us on 10.10.10 for an unprecedented event. Every Nation, 24 hours and You.

Across the planet, documentary filmmakers, students, and inspired citizens will record the human experience over a 24-hour period. By participating in this historic event, you will help capture the diversity of life and culture on this planet. Together we will create a document that is a gift to the world.

One Day on Earth is a documentary and new media project about the amazing diversity, conflict, tragedy, and triumph that occurs in one 24-hour period on Earth. More than a film, One Day on Earth is a multi-platform participatory media project. The flagship of this project is a 120-minute documentary to be released theatrically. Through the One Day on Earth platform we will establish a community that not only watches, but participates."

I am totally in. And I cannot wait to be a part of this amazing project. Anyone else interested, just check out the website to learn how you can get involved.

And watch the trailer:

P.S. I have a job interview in the morning. Wish me luck.

Sunday!

Spent the day playing Mario, eating pizza, and cuddling with Tillie. She was being really sweet to me.

But I think it was just because of what she did yesterday...

That's my phone under there, btw.

I Die.

I love Rachel Zoe. And I love these shoes. And I'm pretty sure Rachel would love these too. But with a price tag of almost $500, I will have to love them from afar.

We made homemade frozen yogurt tonight. I am discovering how easy it is and how good it tastes. I plan on experimenting with different flavors soon. Up next: strawberry cheesecake. Then maybe a red velvet cake.

Zac Posen's line for Target is almost here! Get ready to head to your local Target on April 25th and grab as much of it as you can because it won't last long. Check out the preview here.

Also take a listen to one of my new favorite bands -- Broken Bells. One lead singer from The Shins + kooky guy behind Danger Mouse = crazy awesome. I can't stop listening to them.

Spreading the Lego love.

Check out these super cool houses I built tonight with my nephew. I hauled out my old Legos from the attic, mixed them with his, and we had a couple hours of fun. And he loved hearing all the old stories from my Lego playing days.

We are finally feeling better. I mean, we are still dealing with sinus issues but its definitely an improvement. Andrew actually hung out with a friend tonight which is something neither one of us has felt like doing for almost two weeks. So hopefully the worst is over.

We hit up some pretty good sales this afternoon and picked up some new fun shirts plus a cardigan I have been coveting since December (on clearance!)

No good news on the job front. But hopefully I'll have something to report next week.

Bravia commercial

Check out this Bravia commercial -- 250,000 bouncy balls bouncing down the streets of San Fransisco to the tune of "Heartbeats" by Jose Gonzales. Beautiful.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

Got this book last night, started reading it this morning. Haven't gotten far enough into it to know whether I really like it or not, but here is what the book jacket says:

"The international publishing sensation. A spellbinding amalgam of murder, mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue. It's about the disappearance forty years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden... and about her octogenarian uncle, determined to know the truth about what he believes was her murder. It's about Mikael Blomkvist, a crusading journalist recently at the wrong end of a libel case, hired to get to the bottom of Harriet's disappearance... and about Lisbeth Salander, a twenty-four-year-old pierced and tattooed genius hacker possessed of the hard-earned wisdom of someone twice her age -- and a terrifying capacity for ruthlessness to go with it -- who assists Blomkvist with the investigation. This unlikely team discovers a vein of nearly unfathomable iniquity running through the Vanger family, astonishing corruption in the highest echelons of Swedish industrialism -- and an unexpected connection between themselves. It's a contagiously exciting, stunningly intelligent novel about society at its most hidden, and about the intimate lives of a brilliantly realized cast of characters, all of them forced to face the darker aspects of their world and of their own lives."

Sounds like it's going to be pretty good. I'll let you know what I think. If anyone else has read it already though, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I love Saturdays

Sunny Saturday afternoons are really great for spending time outside frolicking at the park or taking a long walk with the wind blowing in your face. They're also really great for sitting inside, drinking Coke floats and listening to Jamie Cullum. Today I choose option #2, thank you very much.

Check out the awesome video for a new show in development called The Girls with Glasses. I love it. Can't wait for it to start airing. You can learn more about it at http://www.thegirlswithglasses.com/

Going out tonight to spend some time with some friends passing through the area.

"I don't want to get up, just let me lay in. Leave me alone, I'm a twentysomething."

Loving that Jamie Cullum.

I can't believe how much I love clothes

I've been on a real clothes kick lately and I apologize. Actually, I don't. I plan on rewarding myself with these outfits this weekend (fingers crossed) and I couldn't be more excited about it. And you would be too if you were looking this cute.

Tomorrow is the big day -- finally getting a response back about that job interview. I'm just ready to know one way or the other. It's been killing me.

The Tousle Me Softly line from Herbal Essence is pretty good. I'm getting some pretty serious beach hair from it. You should try it this summer.

The entire world is yellow.

Still sick. But I don't mind considering it gives me an excuse to sit on the couch and drink tea all day. As if I needed an excuse. And I'm glad it rained this evening, even if my sinuses took a beating, because it finally washed away the thick layer of yellow nastiness that has covered everything.

I was just sitting here thinking about my carbon footprint. I would consider us an environmentaly friendly couple. We try to recycle, buy organic when we can, drink from reusable water bottles, and use energy efficient lightbulbs. But I think I deserve an award of some kind. I saw this commercial that stated "you can save X amount of carbon monoxide from entering the atmosphere by not taking your car to work just two days a week". Well, I haven't been taking my car to work since August. That's got to be some kind of record. And I'm doing it so all of you can breathe a little easier. No need to thank me.

I am about to start two exercise regimens at once: Bikini Body in 4 Weeks and 6 Weeks to Sexy Abs. I'm hardcore, I know. But I know following a plan will make me get off my butt and do it since apparently willing myself to get to the gym hasn't worked so far this season. I'll get on it as soon as this sickness has left my body. Until then I've got a few glorious days of lounging around watching America's Next Top Model left to enjoy.

Modcloth is my fave

“please shut up. I am very busy and important.”

Just got my latest order from Thriftbooks.com and I am super excited because with that comes a copy of Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding. Now, I have been obsessed with this movie pretty much since it came out. And I am sad to admit that, up to this point in my life, I had yet to read the actual book. Silly me. This is such a hilarious book. I find myself laughing out loud, despite the sore throat I am experiencing these days. And the fact that I am actually able to pick up on the subtle references and humor, much less stay awake long enough to read it, despite my self-induced medicinal coma is saying alot. But seriously, this is a great book. Its funny. And the writing style is right up my alley. It makes me want to be Bridget Jones. Definitely pick up a copy (and shame on you if you don't already have one).

And if you haven't noticed, take a quick look to the right and check out the new section on the sidebar -- our polyvore.com icon. See those super cute outfits right there? I picked those out. And I love all of it. That's right, I'm awesome.

We're getting sick, Andrew and I. Seasonal changes + outdoor allergies = sore throats and sinus problems. I can tell a bad cold is on the way. We're taking proactive measures but I think the damage is already done. So we're planning a few days of vegging on the couch, playing video games and making a dent in our Netflix que.

Tuesday's Favorite Things:

Red/Orange fingernail polish
Polyvore.com -- so much fun.
Cough drops
Battlefield 2 Bad Company on Xbox
Bacon Turkey Bravo sandwhich from Panera Bread Company
Shellac nail polish -- coming May 2010
Sonic Rt. 44 Diet Coke
Puppies

Easter 2010

Hope everyone had a good Easter. Andrew came home with a basket of candy and a bouquet of pretty flowers for me. And there were so many flowers, I was able to fill three vases with them. And now everywhere I look there are pretty flowers in my face. It makes me happy. That and the Reese's I have been snacking on.

This morning Kat and I climbed Pinnacle Mtn. with Kristin and her kids from Urban Promise. She works in Wilmington, Delaware with these great kids and this week, their spring break, they are in Arkansas. So we are getting to spend some time with them. They're pretty fun. Andrew and I are leaving in a few minutes to go do some karaoke (well, spectating anyway) with them at Kat's parents' house. Should be fun.

Haven't heard anything about that job yet but I know it will be sometime this week. I'm keeping my fingers crossed but trying not to think to hard about what it means for us if I get it.

"I got so many ideas burning through my skull"

We are thinking about how much fun it would be to take an RV trip somewhere. Apparently it's farely inexpensive compared to other modes of transportation. Anyone interested in joining us?
Take a look at this website: GoRVing.com

Last night Andrew and I found a house here in NLR -- 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms -- $155,000. I know there's probably something majorly wrong with it and the kitchen for sure needs to be updated, but it has two master bedrooms. And a massive sunroom. And just think about how awesome it could be all fixed up. And think about how much you could sell it for once all the updates had been made. Just saying. It could be awesome.

Oh and Happy Good Friday everyone.
